  6. Let the great Reading Raid of the Library of Congress BEGIN !!

The best way of understanding the Civil War is to read historical writings of the SURVIVORS who fought in that war: Grant, Lee, Sheridan, Hood, Nathan Bedford Forrest, William Tecumpsa Sherman, and others; published before 1900 .

General Winfred Scott devised the overall Union strategy, the ANACONDA plan, which envisioned the strangulation, economic AND militarily, of the south .

In the East, the whiner general, McClellen wasted 2 years in his futile efforts in Virginia, AND ALWAYS RETREATING BACK TO WASHINGTON to lick his wounds inflicted on the Army of the Potomac .

Meanwhile in the West, Admiral Farregut took New Orleans in '62, and after FT.Donaldson fell, Hallack was sacked, giving way to Gens. Grant, whose victory at Vicksburg on July 4th 1863; completing the splitting of Arkansas and Texas from the South, gaining complete control of the Mississippi River; after Vicksburg, U.S.Grant was placed in command of the Army of the Potomac, and in a year and 1/2, took Petersberg and Richmond, surrounding Lee's Army of Virginia and allowing Lee to surrender on 9 April, 1865 .

Rosencranz rose to command to take out Tennesee in at Nashville and Chattanooga '63-64, following the reorganization of the Army of Tennesee after Chattanooga, W.T.Sherman took that army to Atlanta, and went on to take Savannah on 25 December, 1864 . Then he turned north to take Charleston,S.C., and wreck South Carolina on his way to meet Grant in Virginia; the war ended while he was devastating North Carolina on 9 April, 1865 .

R.E.Lee's only hope in the '63 invasion of the north was to pull the Army of the Potomac away from Washington, and DESTROY it; causing the North to lose heart in support of the war, and to bring England into the war on the South's side .

Well that wasn't as much of a big war as Americans make it out to be

  8. "these canons shoot with pinpoint accuracy"
better bunch my troops up and make them advance forward, slowly, at a walking pace.

  9. 1:24:50 "under god" is not part of the American constitution… you're a secular nation, and the founding fathers would scream at you for saying this… as far as i know, the entire reason you guys went to America in the first place was to escape monarchy and religion-ran government.

  11. cliff bird says:

slavery was only a minor reason for the war. most southern states had already abolished slavery before lincoln was elected.. there was more slaves in the northern states than the south. it was about money and power. the north was geting a lot of tax from the south and spending it in the north on roads and railways and spending nothing in the south. several other states wanted to join the south but union troops got sent in to suppress them. maryland delaware kentucky and all the border states were pro south and sent more troops to fight for the south than they did the north. But it was the bankers that wanted the war. there is a lot of money to be made in wars. they loan money to both sides at high interest and the winner has to pay back their loan and the losers loan then the winner has to try and get the money back from the loser. But the slaves were better off as slaves back then. they had work a home and food. when they were freed they were jobless homeless and no food. Most of the slaves went back to their formers masters and asked for work again. they were free but still didnt get paid. they were given their home back given food and medical atention when needed and worked to pay for it the same as when they were slaves. Most slave owners treated the slaves very well as they were worth a lot of money. some slave owners were nasty and beat the slaves but that was rare. the slaves got treated beter when they were slaves than when they were free. Only diff was when they were free they could go to another plantation if the master was nasty to them. The north was imposing laws on the south they didnt want so wanted to leave the union and be independant. some states now want to leave the union. USA isnt 1 country. each state is a country in its own right. the union is like the european union a group of countries working together. each state in the union makes its own laws. they should be free to leave when they want if they dont like what the president is doing. its why the UK voted to leave the EU. we just didnt like all the rules laws and regulations being forced on us. same reason why the south broke way from the north.

  21. What would it have profit the south to gain the world and in the end loose all these men on both sides they should of just let the slaves go free because they still lost the battle we can only hope for an end to war and a road to peace.

  22. Mine eyes have seen the glory
Of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage
Where the grapes of wrath are stored
He has loosed the fateful lightening
    Of His terrible swift sword
    His truth is marching on

I have seen him in the watch-fires
    Of a hundred circling camps
They have builded him an altar
In the evening dews and damps
I have read his righteous sentence
By the dim and flaring lamps
    His day is marching on

    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    His truth is marching on

I have read a fiery gospel
Writ in burnish'd rows of steel
As ye deal with my contemptors
So with you my grace shall deal
Let the hero, born of woman
Crush the serpent with his heel
Since my God is marching on

He has sounded forth the trumpet
    That shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men
    Before His judgment-seat
    Oh, be swift, my soul
To answer him be jubilant, my feet
    Our God is marching on

    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    Glory, glory, hallelujah
    His truth is marching on
    His truth is marching on
